Roan Press, a small literary publisher in Sacramento, California, was founded in 2008 by Brad Buchanan and Kate Washington.

Brad Buchanan is Associate Professor of English at California State University Sacramento, where he teaches British and world literature as well as creative writing. His poetry, scholarly essays, and other writings have appeared in periodicals such as Canadian Literature, Fulcrum, Twentieth-Century Literature, The Wisconsin Review, The Journal of Modern Literature and the Sacramento News and Review. His first book of poetry, The Miracle Shirker, was published in 2005 by Poet's Corner Press, and his book-length study of the fiction of British author Hanif Kureishi was published in 2007 by Palgrave Macmillan Press. A second scholarly book is forthcoming from University of Toronto Press. He is a board member at the Sacramento Poetry Center, runs an annual high school poetry contest, and has served as a visiting poet and judge in Poetry Out Loud, a national poetry recitation contest.

Kate Washington is a freelance writer and editor. She writes about food and travel, primarily in Northern California, for magazines and newspapers, and is a contributing writer for Sactown Magazine. Her work has been published in Sunset, Via, the San Francisco Chronicle, Yoga Journal, Cooking Light, and Yoga Journal, among other publications. She also does developmental and copy editing in a range of fields, from academic tomes to cookbooks. She holds a Ph.D. in English from Stanford University. Washington and Buchanan live in Sacramento with their two daughters.
